TOPIC: Teach The Right Thing (Anglican Devotional 24 April 2021)

READ: Titus 2:1-10 (NKJV)

  1. But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:
  2. that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
  3. the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things —
  4. that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
  5. to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
  6. Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded,
  7. in all things showing yourself [to be] a pattern of good works; in doctrine [showing] integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,
  8. sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
  9. [Exhort] bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all [things,] not answering back,
  10. not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

THE MESSAGE:

Our passage today tells us to always teach sound doctrine. It then specifies what should be taught to different people. Men should be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled and sound in fath. Older women should live reverently, not slanderers or addicted to wine but should teach younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and be submissive to their own husbands. Younger men should be self-controlled and do what is good. Teachers should show integrity and speak well to avoid opposition from detractors. House-helps should be submissive to their masters in everything good. They should endeavour to please them with good behaviour and show that they can be trusted.

Correct teaching is very important in the home, school, Church, or in an industry. When a child is well-taught, he behaves well (Proverbs 22:6), and an apprentice who receives good teaching develops to be as good as his master. However, it is sad that many parents do not teach their children how to dress, behave, cook or make their beds. Some house-helps observe “eye service” and steal from their masters. Some school teachers neglect their duties. If you have failed in your duty, please repent and start teaching and doing the right thing today.

PRAYER: Father, help me to know my duty and do it well to Your glory in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
