TOPIC: The Dead Will Rise Again (Anglican Devotional 25 April 2021)
READ: John 11:17-27 (NKJV)
- So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.
- Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away.
- And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
- Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.
- Then Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
- “But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”
- Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
- Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
- Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
- “And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
- She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
THE MESSAGE:
Jesus arrived at the house of Mary and Martha after four days of Lazarus’ burial. Martha told Jesus that if He had come earlier, things would have been different. Jesus simply told her that her brother would rise again but she thought of the last day resurrection. Then Jesus told her that He is the Resurrection and the Life, and that anybody who believes in Him will live although he dies; and whoever dies and believes in Him will live. He asked Martha if she believed Him and she answered in the positive.
Jesus is never late. Martha thought He came late but she realised that He is able to change things whenever and wherever He comes. Jesus said that Lazarus would rise again and that it need not be at the last day for He (Jesus) is the Resurrection and the Life. All that was needed from Martha was to believe what Christ said. She did and later saw the miracle happen. Is there anything that is dead in your life, family, business or relationship? Invite Jesus to that situation and He will make a difference. Call upon Jesus today and hand over every dead thing that you want to live again. He is able!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, please grant me the faith to believe in Your Son so that even if l die, I shall rise again.
