Topic: Fulfil your Promises

Read: Joshua 6:22-27 (NKJV)

  1. But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.”
  2. And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel.
  3. But they burned the city and all that [was] in it with fire. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
  4. And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
  5. Then Joshua charged [them] at that time, saying, “Cursed [be] the man before the LORD who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.”
  6. So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country.

THE MESSAGE:

Be sensitive to know that God has given you an opportunity and responsibility to deliver changes to people around you. Your responsibility to influence others is enormous. We reap what we sow: Rahab had the opportunity to invest wisely and she utilised the opportunity and secured the agreement that saved her family. Joshua’s spies had promised to protect her and her family (Joshua 12:14-15). Rahab kept her part of the deal and Joshua kept the word of the spies. We must keep our agreements with people – it is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfil it (Ecclesiastes 5:5). After the fall of Jericho, Rahab and her family were secure and lived among the Israelites (verse 25). Rahab did not lose her reward: She protected God’s people and in turn, she was protected by God’s people. It is written in Hebrew 11:31, “Harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.

Keep your promises regardless of the sacrifice that may be involved. As a business man/woman, settle those who train and serve under you. Promote those that are due for promotions. Fight for those you are in a position to defend. Reward those who paid the price to keep you where you are today. Rahab helped the Israelites to succeed and in return, they rewarded her. Do your best to pay those you are indebted to. Apostle Paul says “I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man (Acts 24:16). What of you?

PRAYER: Give me the enablement, Oh Lord, to clear all my areas of legitimate debt to others.
